Linh-Tran Do is a graphic designer and illustrator based in Houston, Texas. She strives to communicate stories through visuals and words as a cross-disciplinarian artist, practicing at the intersection of design, illustration, and fine arts. Though she draws inspiration from many sources, her work often explores the duality of being Vietnamese-American as well as the importance of cultural representation and mental health awareness. She graduated from Rice University with a B.A. in Visual Arts and received the Visual Arts Chairman’s Award. She was the first recipient of the Darra Keeton Award in Painting and Drawing established in 2014.
In 2013, she created as part of the duo VILD Art Collaborative an art installation called Submerged: Origins of a Species, immersing the viewer with abstract representations of DNA made from test tubes and lights, first at Matchbox Gallery and later at Fresh Arts Houston. In 2014, she and her team ranked Top 8 in Disney’s Imaginations Competition with their project, “Selvestra.” Since 2015, she participates in Inktober every year and has self-published a collection of Inktober drawings, available on Amazon. Most recently, her illustration “Queen of Hearts” was selected as one of 20 new designs chosen to represent Houston in Discovery Green’s upcoming exhibit House of Cards by OGE Group in April 2020.
